Ok, so this past month has been crazy! So many games have released in such a short frame of time! Its insane! On top of all this, I have just received a new computer from my brother, (thank you Jimmy!) this has opened up a WHOLE new world of opportunities! Now I can actually play games that I was previously not able to on my old computer! (pictures of my rig soon to come!)
So first off, I made a “pact” with Skoh-Fley. If I got a new computer or if I reformatted- I would start playing WoW (World of Warcraft for the acronym inept) again. So I have new computer so I started playing WoW again- and man is it awesome! It runs way above 60 FPS virtually all the time now! When I first started playing WoW- I thought it was “ok” because not only did it look ugly on my old computer- but it just seemed like boring complex game. Second time around, my opinion has changed- the game is really fun and addicting! All my friends play it and it looks great!

Now, not only do I get to play WoW again, I can play HL2 (Half-Life 2 for the people who hate all things good) at a decent frame rate finally! No more blurry ass textures! No more slowdown! Yay! Skoh was nice enough to lend me the Orange Box, so I have been basically playing through HL2:Episode 1+2 and Portals. I still cant get over the initial fact that my computer can now run these games. Whenever I read about a new PC game coming out I was like- whatever, I won’t even be able to play it anyways- BUT now thats not the case! I can totally play virtually any game! HELL YEAH!

Title: “Headhumpers.”

So now with that update and excitement out of the way, I can fill you in on a story! If you clicked on this story and saw the title and expected to find porn, well, there is none. This story will only really interest the people who played HL2:E1 or likewise.

Its late at night, on a Wednesday, I had just finished a episode of my podcast (PopCast- soda reviewing). We reviewed Redbull and we ended at like 10pm. Totally not a good idea to drink a full can of Redbull and have it already be 10pm because I felt like I should still stay up and do something. Naturally I booted up HL2: Episode 1 since my rig can tear it up. Bad idea. I’m not really a wimp, but when it comes to tense games like F.E.A.R and Doom III, I hate them. Being scared sucks and it makes the game not fun. So I’m playing HL2 in the dark, with headphones at what is now 1am. Worst thing ever! I was scared shitless! There is a part in HL2:E1 where you are in an underground parking garage and its pitch black except for what your flash light shows. The thing is that the flashlight dies out after like 25 seconds of being continuously on and you have to turn it off to recharge it! So I’m running around seeing tons of zombies, headcrabs and other shit coming at me- and then my flashlight dies and I can’t see anything but I can hear all of their fucking zombie moaning noises! So I’m freaking out trying to find a place I can at least run too but I can’t see anything so I end up running into either more zombies or a wall! Ah! I hate it so much! I had to use all of my determination to get through that level. And after I stopped playing I was paranoid that those goddamn head crabs would start pouring into my room or zombies would be hanging around my bathroom. Never again. Never again will I drink caffeinated drinks, stay up late and play scary games in the dark at 1am. Terrible idea. They don’t mix. Its like what police officers are always telling teenagers. Don’t drink and drive. Don’t drink and play survival horror games at night.

I still have nightmares about that cat……

I was right. It was something stupid.

I had burned Ubuntu onto a DVD and was trying to read it with a CD drive. BLAHG!

So I reburned it and it installed fine. I actually wasn’t expecting that Ubuntu Server would be as command-line-dependent as it is (no desktop environment whatsoever), but it makes sense. I’ve just got to look up anything I want to do at another computer, write it down, then run upstairs and type it in, since my own computer isn’t at this house and I have to use the family’s.

So far I’ve gotten it hooked up to the ‘net and running Apache, MySQL, PHP and an FTP server, although I’ve only had the chance to test the FTP server so far. But before I get too bogged down on getting it all ready-to-go on the software half, I actually have to get everything in that case.

What I did (or am attempting to do) with the case is kinda stupid, actually. I just took the old case, ripped out the HDD and CDD bays with just a screwdriver and my now-cut-in-several-places hands, repositioned the former, left out the latter, and fastened (if you can call it that) the power supply on top of the bay using a seriously-bent piece of metal and a screw.

In retrospect, all this did was make the final assembly one power-supply-worth-of-height shorter and give me a computer that was held together by nothing more than twisted metal and a few of the original screws. Not to mention, now the power supply is on the other side of the case compared to the graphics card and motherboard — so I’ll end up plugging in the power cord into the front of the computer.

Talk about deranged.

Oh, and just an update on one of my previous posts: we never actually lost a cat like I thought; she was just hiding somewhere. I sure as hell don’t know where, because I pretty much used all my wallhacks to look for her, but whatever; she’s here and safe.

I’ll finish off the post with this: almost every day I have a song stuck in my head (usually a good one). Today it’s Time Warp from the movie The Rocky Horror Picture Show (which was made after a musical containing the same song), and I can’t figure out where I’ve heard the mini-chorus part of it before, but I have to say, it’s a really good song, despite its unusual containment in this movie. I just want to get up and do the dance. It’s kinda weird. But good, too.

But weird.

So the realtors have captured exactly one-half of my room. In the far end, my Nintendo character poster, my ATLA rasterbation and my bed have all been defeated and replaced with schmancy art posters and thought-to-be-neat bed comforters. In the near end, my desk, my Kramer poster and my electronics have been untouched.

It’s a square-off.

A game of capture-the-point, if you will. We must reclaim the middle of my room!

However, the opposing force has an unfair advantage: the window. It’s open, and come morning the sun will be a destructive force against our nocturnal nature. Even if we manage to capture the objective tonight, by tomorrow we will be unable to hold it. The only option is to retreat to a casing and live to fight another day. The casing may be flimsy, and it may break easily under rain, but this…this cardboard box…it is our only hope. We must accept it.

Anyways, today they painted the front door, so they needed to keep it wide open for a while so it could dry. Apparently they didn’t know I have three cats that are supposed to stay indoors and one that’s supposed to stay outdoors. I’m the only house resident around (my siblings are in college and my mom & step-dad are on vacation), so not even the realtors knew about our cat situation until I got home from school. I managed to scrounge up two of the insider cats, and the contractor, a family friend, knew that the outside one was only supposed to come in to eat, so he took care of that.

It’s 7:00p and I am now the only one home. And I’m not sure where one of the indoor cats is. She’s usually pretty reclusive, so I’m hoping she’s just hiding somewhere, but frankly I’ve looked everywhere she could viably be and have found no trace. She’s got a collar and everything, so if she did get out, I think we’ll be fine so long as she comes across any decent people, but I’m still in a nervous state until then. I emailed my mom to see if there’re any places she hides in that I don’t know about, but I don’t think there are many places I didn’t check.

It’s too late to do much about it now; it’s very dark outside and I haven’t heard back from my mom yet, so I’ll have to wait until tomorrow in a situation that makes waiting horrible.

So I’m sitting here in my chair with a portable house phone by my side. Okay, normal situation — but at very odd intervals, this phone is beeping several times because it is being paged. And this is no soft sound — it BEEPS, and LOUDLY. Understandably, because the page function is meant to assist location of the phone, but still — this is LOUD.

The even stranger part is that I’m the only person home. Nobody’s trying to locate this phone. Now, I’ve got four cats, so I assume one of them is laying down on, playing with, or knocking over the station, but I can’t do a thing about it. You know why? I have no idea where the hell it even is. I don’t have a big house — it’s not terribly small, but I don’t live in a mansion or anything — but I can’t seem to locate this stupid station. Before you think I’m weird for not knowing where my home phone’s charger is, know that it’s probably been moved in the last week or so because of our attempts at cleaning up the house for selling.

In fact, I think it’s an open house today once our realtor gets here, so she’s going to be just showing people around while I’m sitting here trying to do whatever. People are going to be walking into my room and assessing it while I’m just gaming or something. Weird.

Anyways, back to the subject at hand. I’ve given up looking for this mysteriously-located phone station, because the more I do the more my feet get wet from our carpet, which was shampooed yesterday for the same reason mentioned above. So I’ve confined myself to just sitting in my chair with my legs pulled up; my own little island in the sea of wet carpet that is my house.

I’ll finish off this entry with a thoughtful comic I worked on for like five minutes a number of months ago, and just today decided to finish off. I know the trophy sucks, I know the white background looks horrible on this page, and I know it’s not funny (it’s not supposed to be). I just needed to finish this and get some feel of completion for myself.
